This got really uncomfortable

Happy Thursday

How is your week going? The past week for me has been a game-changer. You see<name>, The past two years were quite stagnant and mundane for me. Difficult but stagnant. I guess I'm not the only one who felt this way. The level of comfort I was in was insane and being in that comfort zone got discomfiting. It got so uncomfortable that I started experiencing panic attacks after months of not getting them. That is when I knew that I had to change something. I was so desperate for a change in my life.

I reached a point in my life where I needed to change something to get out of this rut I have been in the past two years.

Suddenly, taking uncomfortable actions becomes easier than being in the same old place you once were.

The past week, I realized how being in uncomfortable situations, taking uneasy decisions, and actions contribute to our personal and professional growth.

Tim Ferriss in his book “the 4-hour workweek” writes “ A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have."

December 2021 and January 2022 have been the most life-changing two months of my entire life. I did the things that scared me the most and had hard conversations that I have been avoiding for quite a while. Was it uncomfortable? I wanted to dig a hole in the earth and hibernate as a way of escape. Was it worth it? Thousand times yes!

There are a few things I discovered when I challenged myself to get uncomfortable(do things that scare the sh*t outta me) this year:

  1. It will not be easy. But, it will be worth it.

  2. You will uncover the beliefs that are limiting your growth. I woke up early one day, completed my morning routine, and then decided to watch that video that I have been meaning to do for quite a while now. 15 mins into watching that video I started feeling sleepy! My brain went like” yes you had the best 7+ hours of sleep, but I'm making you uncomfortable so that you quit watching this video and stay the fu*k in your comfort zone”. It is crazy how our mind tries to protect ourselves from things we don't need protection from in the sneakiest ways.

  3. The change and transformation you expected won't always look like the one you had in your mind, and that's okay.

  4. If your intention as to why you’re doing what you're doing is weak, you will quit. The negative inner dialogues will always be there, it's just that your intention needs to be strong enough to silence it.

  5. Developing willpower will be hard if you don't build self-trust. If you want to wake up early and you have a belief that says "I am not the kind of person who wakes up early" then you will end up falling off the wagon. On the other hand, when you build self-trust with positive affirmations and believe that you are indeed the kind of person who wakes up early, you don't require willpower to get you through!

Journal and reflect

  1. When was I the most uncomfortable in my life and how did it aid my growth?

  2. What steps do I need to take to get out of my comfort zone?

I hope my reflections will motivate you to reflect on your journey.

See you next Thursday!
