9 Crucial life lessons this year taught me

Every year adds something to your lessons learnt list! Here are some life lessons that I learnt this year!

With every passing year, I have learnt something about me, about people, and about the world. The year has been adventurous. The bitter-sweet experiences I had, The fun and beautiful memories I made, The lessons I learnt the hard way have only made me more sensible, wise, and stronger.

While I bid adieu to this passing year, Here are a few life lessons I am going to remember for the rest of my life:

1. It is okay to forgive and move on!

In a book by Dale Carnegie, He writes “when dealing with people, let us remember we are not dealing with creatures of logic, We are dealing with creatures of emotion, Creatures bristling with prejudices and motivated by pride and vanity”.

So, Holding grudge against someone, Being angry or criticizing won't really ease the tension between two people, It rather escalates it.

Abraham Lincoln said, “Don’t criticize them, they are just what we would be under similar circumstances”.

Forgiving them will free you from the pain you carried for so long.

2. You will change the path of your life

It is okay to change your path when its no longer delivering the happiness it once did. What you feel was good a year ago may just end up being the opposite. It is fine to change the course of your life and head towards a completely new direction. Don't resist it. Let it happen organically.

3. No one owes you anything

Nobody owes you anything. Nobody is going to work for your dreams. If you want it, You will have to do it on your own. Also, I learnt it the hard way but its not written anywhere that anyone who owes you help should do it. Don't expect people to help you just because you helped them. World doesn't work that way, sometimes life is unfair.

Know thatIf there is someone who owes you anything, it's you”

4. Appreciation is always a good idea

Learning to appreciate is a good habit to inculcate in one's life.

Be grateful for what you have in life. Maintain a gratitude journal. Also, learn to appreciate good things in people. You may forget that you complimented someone today, but he/she will remember it for the rest of their lives.

5. Life is unfair, Get over it

Maybe the assignment you worked on the whole night somehow got erased. Maybe you failed miserably at something, Maybe you lost something on the way, Maybe you missed your train. Guess what, There are bigger miseries you never faced. Whatever it is, I learnt not to sweat the small stuff. Bad things happen to good people, Life is unfair that way. Deal with it and move on.

6. You are a student for life

There are so many things I didn’t know or didn’t do before. I realized that education doesn’t end when you own a formal degree. You keep learning new things every day, And that is how it is supposed to be.

You will be a student for life. So, don’t hesitate to learn new things as you age.

7. Traveling is life-changing

Not all the knowledge is gained in classrooms. Traveling is a way to meet new people, From different parts of the world, Brought up in different cultures, Mannerisms, and etiquettes speaking different languages, Possessing varied skills. Travelling can give you experiences you could never encounter sitting in a classroom or office cubicle.

8. Perfectionism is a form of procrastination and fear

Yes, Perfectionism is a positive trait. I agree. But, Occasionally this same positive trait induces fear and laziness in us.

We stop ourselves from doing things just because we want it to be perfect than ever. Guess what! Sometimes Done is better than good.

9. Living minimally doesn’t mean you have less.

A minimalist life is a choice. This is a basic misconception when people come across the concept of minimalism. It doesn’t mean you are depriving yourself of something, It means you are freeing yourself of the burden of stuff you didn't use.

With these life lessons, I will be stepping into a new year. A new year filled with hopes, dreams, and aspirations to be better at everything. Wishing you a fresh start with renewed energy and confidence throughout the new year. May this year, you give wings to your dreams and let them come true.
